Q&A

Mr Brendan Bennett

Treasurer – Canada

1. What inspired you to choose podiatry?

After several prior careers, I wanted work that made a meaningful difference in people’s lives. Podiatry offered that opportunity through restoring mobility, relieving pain, and preserving independence. Foot health is fundamental to overall wellbeing, and the combination of clinical problem-solving, biomechanics, and long-term patient care made it a deeply purposeful profession for me.

2. What ambitions and goals do you have as a member of the FIP Board?

As a Board member and Treasurer, I aim to strengthen financial sustainability, transparency, and governance while supporting strategic growth. A key priority is raising the global profile and awareness of podiatry and working toward common international standards of practice, education, and care to advance the profession and improve patient outcomes worldwide.

3. What motivates you in your work?

Having been involved in the profession for over 35 years, I remain motivated by the knowledge that podiatry is both a worthy and necessary field. Improving mobility, reducing pain, and preventing complications has a profound impact on individuals and health systems alike. Contributing to a profession that delivers such essential care continues to be deeply fulfilling.

4. What is a hidden talent (or surprising skill) you have?

I would not describe it as a special talent, but I try to be dependable and consistent in my work. I take responsibilities seriously, remain committed, and do my best to follow tasks through carefully. I am always willing to learn and help where needed, and colleagues know they can rely on me to contribute steadily.
